It’s a scenario that keeps us up at night:

It’s August 2 and the Secretary of State announces that there weren’t quite enough valid signatures to qualify the Bright Colorado initiative for the November 2011 ballot.

Nothing on the ballot to stop a fourth year of cuts.  Nothing to prevent further class size growth, teacher layoffs, cuts to arts, music, P.E. and foreign languages, skyrocketing fees and double-digit tuition increases.

We can’t let that happen.  We’ve got to get the Bright Colorado initiative on the ballot so Colorado voters have a chance to protect students from the loss of even more educational opportunities.

It’s now or never.  We need your help.

We’re asking you today to “circulate or donate.”

Circulate” — If you haven’t already, please download a petition and start asking your friends, colleagues, fellow camp and sports parents, and book group members to sign.  We can also direct you to public events where you can collect signatures with other volunteers.

Donate” — If you aren’t able to carry a petition (and even if you are), you can help by making a donation of any size to Great Education Colorado Action.   Your donation will help Great Ed Action do the “back end” work that makes a volunteer signature gathering campaign a success.

Let’s make sure that August 2 is a day of celebration, not a nightmare come true.

Together, we’ll make it.  We have to.
