The Colorado Association of School Libraries is your professional organization, dedicated to providing you with opportunities for growth through workshops and networking. Spring is right around the corner, and our professional development subcommittee has been hard at work preparing for our Spring “Un-conference”, Celebrate! Reflect & Renew. Following another successful CASL round-table style sharing session at the CAL conference in November, we have decided to extend that opportunity for sharing with and learning from each other. We are teaming up with the Power Library Program and CLiC to offer a unique learning opportunity.
This year, we will have a different kind of workshop –in a format sometimes referred to as “un-conference.” At this kind of conference, there are no presentations. We will be providing facilitated conversations around the theme of celebration, reflection, and renewal. Librarians will be split into school –level groups, and we will have the opportunity for extended discussions. What successful programs did we implement this year? How are we integrating the AASL standards with the new content standards? What really worked – and how can that be implemented in your library? How are we showing the important role we play in helping students acquire 21st century skills? What kind of data are we sharing with administrators and parents? What can we do to improve our program next school year? What do we need to get there? These are just some of the questions that we will explore. We have a lot of expertise in Colorado School Libraries, and we know that much can be learned in this kind of exchange.
A special feature at this year’s workshop will be a learning share fair presented by Colorado Power Libraries. Come see examples of unit plans tied to the standards and samples of student work. Chat with the Power Librarians and find out what some of their strategies are for leadership, professional development, advocacy and collaboration.
UC Denver School Library & Instructional Leadership Program will offer 1 graduate credit hour for physical attendance and follow-up reflections at the rate of $50.00. Recertification credit will also be available for in-person attendees.
Additionally, we will have some great doorprizes for those attending in person, including a QuickCam Vision Pro 2-megapixel webcam with autofocus (for a MAC), donated by UC Denver!
We hope you will plan to join us – and plan to share some of your successes. Come prepared to network, listen, and share. Watch the CASL Blog and our CASL Community email list serv for more details!
