As you know, the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) is working on updating the 1998 Information Power which contains the standards for our school library profession. I am hoping that you have submitted your ideas on the draft of the learning standards.
Another part of looking at our standards is looking at the vision for our organization. In December, a representative from each state gathered in Chicago to look at our vision. I represented Colorado and felt very fortunate to work with 49 other librarians in discussing where we have been, where we are now, and where we are going in the future. Our input was presented to the the AASL Board at ALA Mid-winter in Seattle.
The Board will synthesize all of this information and use it when creating our new standards. As members of the school library profession, I am certain you will have an opportunity to provide additional input into this document. Please take the opportunity to do so.
We are AASL and our voices need to be heard.
