REVIEW: eSchool News Online

Ever checked out the Web site eSchool News Online? If you have, you know it contains a wealth of information and resources for those involved in education! The main sections are News, Grants, Professional Development, Conferences, Resources, and Community. The front page is splattered with educational related news in one form or another. Try the Video Resource Center to see video clips on such topics as the millennial copyright act, cell phone regulations in schools, etc. and check out the Safe Center – an excellent place to go to find information on emergencies from school shootings to natural disasters, where other schools have put their emergency plans online to share. The Grants and Funding section has a wealth of information on grants for schools listing upcoming deadlines, available awards, and lots of general grant help. In the Professional Development section you can find short tutorials of software (such as Photoshop tips) and other online classes, but you have to register and pay to attend most of these classes. The Resources section contains the Educator Resources Center – the best place to go for information on variety of topics such as e-rate resources, online learning, whole learning, tech tutoring, and websites that work. But don’t miss the Tech Solutions Center where you can also search for “hot products” and the “white papers” library as well as browse for tech solution companies to meet your needs.

The best part of this Web site, is the various options to receive the information. Besides visiting the website, you can order eSchool News in paper form (at cost), but wait – there is the PDF formatted Classroom News that can be emailed to you for free once you register (easy and simple)! There is also an RSS feed available for the site, to use in your aggregator (such as Bloglines) – get the headlines without having to remember to visit the website.

For anyone in a school library, this is one site you cannot pass up and why not pass on to your teachers: http://www.eschoolnews.com/
